At Mio Mondo we believe children must learn to make independent choices. The teacher helps your child to give direction to its inner motivation. Children’s learning capacity improves when they can decide by themselves how to work on their development. We also give them a considerable amount of independence for matters they are able to manage. Children develop in a continuous interaction with their environment. The environment helps your child in his or her self-development and in developing its personality. We organize the environment based on these directives. It’s essential that the learning environment is aligned with the children’s specific needs at a certain development stage. They must find the possibilities to be active and develop their creativity and problem-solving skills. At Mio Mondo we make sure that the accommodations for the older children provide ample room for working together (also in the building’s communal rooms), that ICT and visual material are available to provide the possibility to bring in the world. Older children will gradually start working on an abstract level. In order to provide an appropriate range of activities, we use methods and digital means in addition to Montessori materials from group 3. The teachers follow a constant cycle of observing, analyzing, setting targets, offering, supervising and assessment. The teacher’s role in observation and assessment is an important aspect, however, she will also use objective measuring tools.
All students are involved in safety and social behaviour at school and are encouraged to independently solve problems in accordance with their ability. In addition, mentor-students are available who have been trained to help their fellow students to maintain the safety standards and a good atmosphere at school. The students learn to solve problems by themselves, they feel more involved in everything that’s going on and acquire competences they will be able to use throughout their life.
