All the children go outside every day in any weather conditions. Your child can have a good time being active in the open air and can romp about, build huts, play football, go hide, run around, climb…. At the same time, the children develop respect for nature. Extraordinary natural playgrounds have been laid out at Mio Mondo with sand, stones, wood. Children can moreover use outdoor play materials. It’s a challenging environment that makes adventurous and creative play appealing. Mio Mondo uses the sports hall at the building for physical-education classes by a professional PE teacher. In addition, children can freely use the play room for sports and play.

Together we stand firm

children at Mio Mondo learn together to take care of their own environment, of each other and they develop a sense of solidarity.

Once a month we organize a open stage at Mio Mondo’s central hall. Children can perform or show their talents by themselves or together with others.

All of our professionals work together with the parents on the best possible development of your child. Clear communication is a vital aspect to this. That’s why we carefully listen to your child and really want to learn to know your child. Your child is received by a familiar person in a relaxed atmosphere. Every day, we spend much time and attention on your child’s stories and jobs that he or she created and wants to proudly show us!

World citizenship

The offered activities and lessons will help your child to discover the world at Mio Mondo. Based on theme lessons, your child learns how to organize the world around him or her. Through lessons from a musician, artist or scientist, your child becomes acquainted with a great number of skills to enable him or her to discover his or her own talents. We also take children out in the neighbourhood. Every year, we visit organizations in Amstelveen, the public library and a museum.

Under the professional supervision of Sportbedrijf Amstelveen, we offer sports activities where your child can come in contact with sports that may be new to your child, such as boxing, climbing walls and free running. And we also have sewing machines and kitchens for cooking activities available.

Independence and responsibility

Besides the joint activities, your child will every day have plenty room to play and work for longer periods of time. With set routines, your child will learn what to do during this period, to finish his or her job and when the child is done, to clean it up and choose something new. Your child will develop focus, learn to make choices and solve problems. As your child grows older, independence increases. We anticipate to this by giving your child more independence in consultation with you. Older children can, for example, play in the surroundings of Mio Mondo by themselves at a certain moment, or go home independently. At Mio Mondo, children are given much space, both inside and outside.

Besides the development of independence, children at Mio Mondo also learn about responsibility. Children learn about real responsibility for activities by showing care for the environment and for other children in the group and by for example looking after plants and animals.

The students are moreover organized in a students’ council that meets several times a year and talks about school matters. Four upper class students represent the students in the students’ council. The elections are annually held in September. Why a students’ council? The students have their own voice within the school organization so they know that they’re given due weight. They become acquainted with the democratic principles through practice. This moreover improves the organization’s quality standards.
